Meta Element

HTML (or) XHTML are the Meta elements. To provide structured metadata about a Web Page is possed by the usage of meta elements. On the same page the multiple elements are oftenly used: the element is same, but its attributes are different. To specify a page description Meta elements can be used, The other head elements and attributes are not provided for keywords and any other metadata.

  This meta element has two uses:
1) To emulate the use of the HTTP response header,
                            (or)
2) To embed additional metadata within the HTML document.

The information about a given Web Page is provided by meta elements, most often help search engines categorized them correctly. Those are inserted into the HTML document, but the users who are visiting the site are not able to visible directly.

In 1995, the keywords attribute was popularized by search engines such as Infoseek and AltaVista.
